Miniera
Febuary 20 – 28 2020
Romantso, Athens
The reason for travelling to the Mines: my father used to work there as a geologist. The way from Athens to Selenica, a thread that connects the place where I grew up to the place where I was born.
Albania still gives prime materials for the construction of roads, and I used such a prime material to explore my roots.
I made my way to the Mines, and once there I tried to speak about sculpture, by measuring my abilities against an environment that was hard, rough, and at the same time familiar.
The figure of my father: more than perceptible, throughout the whole quest. Here I am presenting fragments of what happened at the Mines, “material evidence” of a negotiation. A negotiation with matter as well as with loss.
In this search, a valuable fellow traveler was the cinematographer Eleftherios Panagiotou and I thank him warmly for his contribution.
