Miniera

A series of works that depict the artist's ongoing negotiation with matter and loss. The way from Athens to Miniera is a thread that connects the place where Doreida grew up to the place where she was born; her late father used to work at the Mines of Selenica as a geologist. His figure is more than perceptible throughout the whole quest. Albania still gives prime materials for the construction of roads and Doreida used such a prime material to trace her roots. She made her way from Greece to the Albanian Mines, measuring herself against an environment that was hard, rough and at the same time familiar. She worked in situ, day and night, exploring the use of bitumen, but also straw, and other materials connected to Selenica. Miniera is a multidimensional project that consists of sculpture, video works, photographic images, drawings and a diary of the overall experience. In this journey, the artist has a valuable fellow traveler, Eleftherios Panagiotou, whom she warmly thanks for his contribution to the project.
